Classic Chrome was created by Managing Director Garry Shortt who started his career with British Leyland in Oxford as an Engineering Apprentice. After working in their Service Division in Oxford he moved to London as an Area Service Engineer and then into their London sales operation as Sales & Marketing Manager for the London area. Finally, after a two year stint as General Sales Manager for Normand Ltd in Kensington, he decided to embark on his ultimate passion of running his own Classic and Sports car business and having secured the perfect site in Mortlake, Classic Chrome was launched on the 18th October 1989!
In 1997 the shop adjoining the showrooms and listed as Queen Victoria's Waiting Room became available and this became the showroom office/shop selling official F1 merchandise, Classic Chrome merchandise, Die Cast Model Cars and parts and accessories. There are very few shops left in London selling F1 Merchandise now, so it is well worth a visit to see and buy the latest clothing and caps for the current teams plus our own Classic Chrome range of clothing and caps.
Classic Chrome were in fact one of the very first car dealers in the UK to launch a company website (let alond classic car dealers) when it was launched in 1997 and it is still one of the best and biggest independant dealer website's with a huge amount of 'traffic' that contains not only classic & sports cars for sale, but a wealth of helpful information for those people looking to venture into the Classic Car market for the first time.
The site has expanded over the years and a builders yard at the rear was taken over in the mid 1990's and now houses a fully enclosed and covered display area plus a valeting bay and 2-post ramp for preparation work and car inspections.
