De SL R129 debuteerde op de Automobielsalon van Genève in 1989. De productieperiode liep van 1989 tot 2001. Ten opzichte van zijn voorganger had hij veel nieuwe voorzieningen op het gebied van veiligheid. Een onderdeel hiervan is de automatische rol-beugel. Bij dreiging van omslaan werd deze in 0,3 seconden elektromagnetisch uitgeklapt. Een primeur in de automobielproductie. Een andere noviteit was de elektro hydraulische cabrioletkap. Het openen of sluiten kost slechts 30 seconden. Ook was ABS vanaf de introductie standaard.
Deze Mercedes-Benz SL 280 komt uit 1998. Hij is uitgevoerd in een nette "Obsidian Black Metallic" tegenover een beige lederen interieur. Het leven van deze SL begon in 1998 bij Mercedes-Benz dealer Hess te Trier, Duitsland. Hier heeft hij zijn eerste paar jaren doorgebracht, met nog steeds reguliere servicebeurten bij Hess. In 2008 werd de 2-zitter voor het eerst op Nederlands kenteken geregistreerd. Zijn 1e Nederlandse servicebeurt was in Amsterdam. Later verplaatste hij zich naar Wassenaar en uiteindelijk naar Leiden, waar de laatste notering van aanwezig is. Met dit serviceboekje is aan te tonen dat hij slechts 93.927 kilometers heeft afgelegd. Dit is ook terug te zien aan de huidige nette staat van de auto.
Het interieur bestaat uit lederen bekleding. De middenconsole is uitgevoerd met klassiek walnoot-hout. Dit geldt ook voor het stuur, wat een mix van hout en leer is. Hij is in bezit van de originele Mercedes-Benz radio. Hiernaast heeft de cabriolet onder andere nog:

- Elektrische ramen & spiegels
- Elektrisch verstelbare stoelen
- Mistlampen vóór en achter
- Hardtop in carrosseriekleur
Onder de motorkap ligt een 2.8 liter V6, deze produceert zo'n 204pk samen met 270nm aan koppel. 0-100km/u wordt afgelegd binnen 9,5 seconden en de topsnelheid ligt op 228 km/u. De motor is gekoppeld aan een automatische transmissie met 5-versnellingen.
Onderaan de auto zijn er 17 inch lichtmetalen 5-spaak velgen met Michelin banden te vinden. Deze verkeren in nette conditie. Achterin de kofferbak is er een reservewiel, samen met een krik en een tool-kit. Qua documentatie is er het volgende:

The SL R129 debuted at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show. The production period ran from 1989 to 2001. Compared to its predecessor, it had many new safety features. One of these was the automatic roll-over bar. At the threat of overturning, it deployed electromagnetically in 0.3 seconds. A first in automobile production. Another novelty was the electro hydraulic convertible top. Opening or closing it took just 30 seconds. ABS was also standard from its introduction.
This Mercedes-Benz SL 280 is from 1998. It is finished in a neat "Obsidian Black Metallic" opposite a beige leather interior. The life of this SL began in 1998 at Mercedes-Benz dealer Hess in Trier, Germany. This is where it spent its first few years, with regular servicing still taking place at Hess. In 2008, the 2-seater was registered on Dutch registration for the first time. Its 1st Dutch service was in Amsterdam. Later it moved to Wassenaar and finally to Leiden, where the last listing is present. This service booklet shows that it has covered only 93,927 kilometres. This is also reflected in the current neat condition of the car.
The interior consists of leather upholstery. The centre console is finished in classic walnut wood. This also applies to the steering wheel, which is a mix of wood and leather. It is in possession of the original Mercedes-Benz radio. In addition to this, the convertible has:
