Description and History
This stunning 1954 Chevrolet Corvette C1, eligible for the 1000 Miglia, is one of the most iconic examples of postwar American style and engineering. The 1954 C1 belongs to the first generation of Corvettes (1953–1962), a landmark series that established Chevrolet’s legendary sports car lineage.
Only 3,640 units were hand-built in 1954 at the St. Louis, Missouri plant, making each example rare and highly collectible, especially in Europe. Most cars were originally equipped with the Powerglide automatic transmission; this example has been converted to a 4-speed manual gearbox, greatly enhancing its driving engagement and sporting character.
It is powered by the classic “Blue Flame” inline-six engine (3,859 cc) with triple Carter carburetors, producing approximately 155 hp. The combination of a fiberglass body — revolutionary at the time — and a sturdy tubular steel frame resulted in a lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and beautifully sculpted sports car.
Provenance and Condition
This Corvette was imported from the USA in the late 1980s and registered in Italy in 1990. It has been in the same ownership since 2004, carefully maintained and preserved with great attention.
In March 2002, the car was featured in an extensive article in Ruoteclassiche magazine, even appearing on the cover, confirming its outstanding condition and historical value.
Recently, the vehicle has undergone a complete mechanical overhaul, including:
full brake system restoration,
new battery installation,
carburetor rebuild,
oil and filter replacement,
full service,
and all necessary work to pass the official inspection flawlessly.
All work was performed without sparing any expense, ensuring reliability and perfect efficiency.
Historical and Collectible Significance
This 1954 Corvette C1, ASI-homologated and eligible for the 1000 Miglia, is far more than a vintage sports car — it is a true symbol of American automotive history. A rare, well-preserved, and fully documented example, ideal for discerning collectors and enthusiasts wishing to participate in the world’s most prestigious historic motoring events.
