1958 BMW 501-8 SEDAN
BMW’s luxurious 501 holds the distinction of being the first production model to emerge from the Bavarian marque in the post-war era. The car’s distinctive soft edges and flowing curves earned it the nickname “Baroque Angel,” and the series was offered in sedan, coupe, or cabrio body styles. Initially powered by an overhead-valve inline-six, the 501 was offered in several different series and trim levels. The eight-cylinder 501-8 joined the range positioned between the six-cylinder 501/3, and the more luxurious 502. The 501-8 shared the same 2.6-liter V8 engine as the 502, which was renowned for its power and refinement. Rarely seen on our shores, this marvelous 501-8 was lovingly restored to a high standard by marque specialists Erwin Brummer & Son in Germany, with coachwork restored by the respected Marek Matejcek in the Czech Republic. Roughly 15 years since completion, the quality of the workmanship still stands, as the car presents in superb condition inside and out. Finished in silver over blue leather upholstery, it features such niceties as a period-correct Becker Mexico, VDO ambient temperature gauge, and a Golde canvas sunroof for a bit of open-air cruising. These rare and handsome sedans are seldom restored to this level, and this car is sure to find a welcome home in any BMW enthusiast’s stable.
