The Coupe version of the Jaguar XJ was first shown in 1973 at the International Auto Show and was intended to be a more sporting version of the XJ saloon. the XJC shared a complete chassis and wheel base with the short wheelbase version of the Jaguar XJ, but sported an all new roof design and extended saloon doors. Production did not start for another two years in 1975. and only continued until 1977. Throughout its entire run only 10,426 XJ coupes were produced, with only 1,855 being XJ12C Models. This makes the XJ Coupe the rarest production Jaguar ever to be made.
Presented here has to be one of if not the lowest mileage Jaguar XJ12 coupe left in existence. The car was used as a dealership demonstration car for many years, and sat on a showroom floor for all that time, which has preserved the vehicle in it original condition without racking up significant miles.
Outside this car presents very nicely. Every bit of trim, chrome, and light fits exactly as it would from the factory, because it has never been apart to repair or paint. We have had a paint meter all over this car and it is all original throughout. The chrome is all nice and bright, with no pitting and minimal scratching. The rubber bumpers, which often fall apart and degrade with time, are still soft and their original shape. There are a couple of small chips in the paint, as to be expected from a nearly 50 year old paint job, but overall it is truly in remarkable condition.
The interior is just as jaw-dropping. Absolutely everything inside is completely original, and everything has little to no wear at all, just a very small amount of Patina from age. The lather seats are still soft , with very little creasing and no cracks or tears. All the controls and switches have no wear, and the markings are all still present, something that gets worn off with use on most vehicles. The carpets are in stunning condition, showing virtually no wear at all. Even the pedal pads are in like new condition, unsurprisingly given the low mileage. it is really a sight to behold, the small details on an original car like this are unmatched. Details such as original door latches that aren’t coated in grease and grooved out, factory stickers on the seat belt buckles, these are details that you will only get from a car that has not been driven a substantial amount. You will not be able to find another car that is so original and unmolested without having been restored in any fashion or form. This truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own the rarest production Jaguar ever in its original factory configuration.
Under the hood the 5.3l V-12 Fires up at the lightest turn of the key. The engine idles extremely smoothly and quietly, and moves the coupe with ease. The engine and transmission run together in harmony extremely well, making this car a very pleasant experience. Here at Classic Investments we often praise extremely original cars for how well they drive, as often restorers do not accomplish getting cars to drive as well as the factory did, and this car is no differen.t It absolutely drives exactly as it did the day it left the factory floor. Smooth, strong acceleration is easy with the throttle pedal and the brakes stop the big coupe very easily. The car handles bumps very nicely with no rattles or squeaks and the car handles great overall.
This XJ12 Coupe is a must have for the avid Jaguar Collector, as you will not come across another that is in such nice original condition. With only 686 being sold in the US, and most of those being lost over the years, this is probably the best one left.
