As a direct descendent of the legendary AC/Shelby Cobra, the AC 428 Frua brought the fiery Anglo-American sports car into the realm of a luxurious, high-performance grand tourer. The 428 was a truly international affair, assembled in Thames-Ditton using a coil-sprung AC Cobra chassis, powered by Ford’s powerful 428 FE V8, and clothed in sophisticated Italian coachwork by Frua. Production ended in 1973 after just 51 Coupes and 29 Convertibles were completed, and surviving examples are highly sought-after. This example, chassis CF 14, is an original right-drive car, equipped (as most) with the optional automatic gearbox. It has fascinating provenance, having been originally owned by the great Rob Walker - heir to the Johnnie Walker Whisky fortune and principal of Rob Walker Racing. Later owned by Adrian McAlpine of the British McAlpine industrial family, it eventually came to the USA, and benefits from a beautifully finished cosmetic restoration. Presented in a striking red over black trim, and fitted with wire wheels, it is a gorgeous example of this rare and highly capable grand tourer – a grown-up Cobra for discerning collector.
