Styled by Paul Bracq, famed designing the Mercedes SL 'Pagado', the 6 series BMW, internally known as the E24, was produced to replace the E9 Coupe which had been in production from 1968-75. With production starting in January 1976 with the 630CS, bodies originally made by Karmann, the E24 is often seen as the original BMW Grand Tourer, with its seductive Coupe styling, a spacious open interior, large cavernous boot and large capacity engine, ranging from 2.8 litres - 3.5 litre straight six motors mated to either a 4 speed ZF automatic or 5 speed Getrag manual gearbox.

In 1977 production was brought in-house, to Dingolfing, where this remained until production ended. During the later years the E24 saw styling changes, moving away from the chrome bumpers. 1984 saw the introduction of the M635 CSI (286bhp engine derived from the wildly designed BMW M1) and in 1988 the E24 range was lifted further by the introduction of the Motorsport and Highline models. By production end in 1989, just 86,000 E24 examples had been built and to this day, the E24 remains one of the most desirable Coupes from this great Bavarian manufacturer.

Supplied new by Henry Bros (GLW) Ltd to Mr Forsyth on the 1st August 1984 this sensational BMW 635 CSI manual is quite simply one of the finest E24's we've come across and comes beautifully equipped with the following specification;

With just one owner for some 34 years its a real privilege to add this cossetted E24 into our portfolio and with just 68k miles, supported by MOTs from 1987 (her first) through to 2020 (in a collection since), plus an extensive service / maintenance record we're delighted to say that she's the finest 'chrome bumper' / pre-Highline example we've come across. A visual tour of the car confirms superb paint, with a real depth of shine, fantastic panel gaps just as BMW intended, the stunning chromework remains bright and tarnish free and all exterior rubbers, glass, lens', spoilers etc all remain in excellent condition too with the same being said for the original BMW TRX1 alloys wearing their correct Michelin TRX 220/55 VR390 tyres with 6mm tread all round.

Openning the doors and the Black leather interior remains in first class order, with just the softest of creases in the drivers seat and barely any evidence that passengers have been carried at all! Highly coveted back in the 80's the E24 was a hugely expensive car at the time, electric everything and we're happy to say that it all works as it should.

With an indicated 68k miles, supported by 30 previous MOT certificates, this BMW 635 CSI manual is a delight to drive. The 3.5 litre (specifically 3430cc) straight six starts easily and out on the open road, she drives faultlessly with strong brakes, tight steering, and with her, rarer, 5 speed gearbox she's able to explore more of the circa 218bhp.....needless to say she offers plenty of ompf and with a deep-chested exhaust note there is always a temptation to squeeze the throttle a little more .... oh for a de-restricted autobahn!

History is impeccable and fully supports the 68k miles, there's a raft of invoices supporting on-going mainteance by the same 2 specialists for 31 years, further receipts kept by her most recent owner (a local enthusiast / collector), naturally the origial dealer book-packs are present and since coming to us we've also carried out a full service and she'll be sold with a new 12month MOT ahead of delivery / collection.

With remarkable, low ownership and low mileage E24's being a rarity and then add into that the option of being a manual, plus being finished in the stunning colour combination of Graphite metallic with Black leather, we'd say that with the exception of a 'grail' M635CSI this 1984 BMW 635 CSI has to be a 'unicorn' type car.....you'll not find another; easily!
